Purpose
This advisory is issued to assist Customers and Customer Success teams in understanding the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) Quarantine legislation regarding the threat to New Zealand agriculture posed by the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug pest.
Details
High risk goods shipped as breakbulk, in open top containers or on flat rack containers where goods are manufactured in or shipped from target countries between 1 September 2024 and 30 April 2025 inclusive, are subject to the BMSB seasonal measures.
Fumigation of high-risk goods before shipment is mandatory. All target high risk cargo shipped as Breakbulk, in open top containers or on flat rack containers from the countries listed below, arriving untreated will be directed for immediate export with no allowances being made.

* Italy All containers or breakbulk, exported during the BMSB-risk season, must meet BMSB requirements. Sea containers (and their contents) from Italy may be transhipped through other countries for repacking or treatment on the way to New Zealand. When this happens, you will need to make sure Italy is listed as the country of origin, and the correct documents are submitted to the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).
Notes:
- New Zealand and Australia do not conduct BMSB treatments for each other. i.e., Goods bound for Australia cannot be treated for BMSB in New Zealand. For example, if the goods have been exported from Australia for not meeting BMSB import conditions, they will not be permitted to be treated in New Zealand, and vice versa.
